Thank you for considering taking part in the My Guitar project. This page explains what the project is, why you may have been invited, and what an interview involves. It’s designed to give you clarity, confidence, and a sense of how your voice will be treated.
What this project is
My Guitar is an ongoing exploration of the people, places, craft, and culture that shape the guitar world. It brings together conversations, field visits, and reflections from makers, players, technicians, retailers, and others whose work or experience contributes to the wider story of the instrument.
The aim is simple: to document the real voices behind the guitar — clearly, respectfully, and without noise.
Why you’ve been invited
If I’ve approached you, it’s because your work, experience, or perspective adds something meaningful to that story. You’re not a “subject” in the abstract — you’re someone whose insight matters.
There is no hidden agenda, no mystery shopping, and no adversarial framing. This is a collaborative conversation.
What the interview involves
Interviews are informal, conversational, and shaped around your comfort level. Typically:
- Format: a recorded conversation (audio), usually 30–60 minutes
- Setting: in person or remote, depending on location
- Tone: relaxed, curious, and respectful
- Focus: your experience, your craft, your views — not a script
You don’t need to prepare anything unless you want to.
How your voice will be used
Your words will be shaped into a written interview published on myguitar.chat, part of the wider My Guitar project.
I take accuracy and representation seriously:
- You will never be misquoted.
- Your meaning will be preserved.
- You can flag anything sensitive or off‑limits.
- If needed, you can review the text before publication.
The goal is to reflect your voice, not overwrite it.
What you get out of it
Most interviewees take part because they want to:
- share their craft or experience
- contribute to a wider conversation
- document something that matters to them
- reach readers who care about the guitar world
- support a project that values clarity and respect
There is no commercial angle. Just a chance to speak in your own words.
How to prepare (optional)
You don’t need to do anything. But if you like, you can think about:
- what first drew you into this work
- what you wish more people understood
- what has changed over time
- what you’re working on now
- what you care about most in your craft or practice
These are prompts, not requirements.
